Today as we celebrate the life of Billy Graham who has passed, our ministry gives thanks for his faithful ministry which led our founder to the Lord, and eventually to start Caring Hearts Ministry. Our founder, Harold McKamish was led to the Lord at a Billy Graham Crusade him and his wife Daisy were going through a hard time after Daisy’s brother had passed away at war. Daisy and Harold went to the crusade in search of something bigger than themselves, and they found it. The life change that took place at that crusade while listening to Billy Graham talk is what led them to start Caring Hearts Ministry, which has led many people to Christ over the past 30 years. We honor Billy Graham, and recognize how the Lord uses our lives for impacts greater than we will ever know.
Harold McKamish- 2/24/2018
I was busy doing various things around the house and decided to come in to the house and rest a bit. I turned on the T V and felt a sadness in my heart for a moment. I heard the announcer saying “ The Reverend Billy Graham had died at the age of 99 years old .” I say for a moment, because I know Billy Graham is now where he has been telling the world what they must do in order to be spending eternity with Jesus, and now he is there with the one he loved so much feeling the loving arms of his Savior wrapped around him.
As I sit there, my mind went back to my life in 1968. I was a young man at the age of 38. I was very busy in trying to support my family. You see, I felt the best way to support my family was to make more money to be able to give them what they need and to give them nicer things . But, that is not what they needed. They needed a daddy who could spend more time with them, playing with them, sharing good things with them and telling them more about this thing called life. they needed
a dad to show his love in ways other than providing things. There was turmoil within our home at that time.
Daisy’s brother was in the army. He had no business being there because of a medical problem he had, but non the less he was there. He was in Vietnam. One day in October 1968, we got word he was missing in action. This surprised us because he was due to come home. We found out later, he was due to come home but he signed up to go look for some of his comrade’s who were missing in action. He did not return and it took awhile before they found him. This was a very sad time for us.
I suggested that Daisy go to Florida to be with her mom and dad. While she was there, mothers day came, and it was on that mother’s day that the soldiers came and knocked on the door to tell them their son was killed.
A couple of weeks later, while discussing various things, I told Daisy there has to be more to life than this. All I was doing was working. If I had extra time, it was devoted to work of some kind. That week in the news paper I read Billy Graham was coming to town. it’s time to change your life. We went to the Billy Graham crusade at Pitt Stadium on that October day in 1968.
While I was sitting in my chair listening to the news about His death, my mind took me back to that stadium. I could hear his plea, his call, get up out of that seat, make your way down here to the front of the stage, don’t delay, come. and in my mind I could hear them singing , JUST AS I AM WITH OUT ONE PLEA, BUT THAT THY BLOOD WAS SHED FOR ME, AND THAT THOU DID’ST ME COME TO THEE, O LAMB OF GOD, I COME, I COME. As I sat in my chair, I saw myself standing in front of that stage looking into the eyes of Billy Graham and couldn’t wait to say yes to that alter call , and the feeling that I had. I truly felt that I was a new creature in Christ Jesus.
So hearing of Billy Graham’s passing was mixed emotions to me. But, I was so great full, and for ever more will be because it truly changed my life, and probably a lot of family members with out them realizing it. If you never asked Jesus Christ into your life, do not delay, do it right now . THANK YOU BILLY GRAHAM
Caring Hearts Ministries has grown tremendously since it’s humble beginnings in 1986. When the founder of CHM prayed for God to show him where his help was needed most, the Lord showed up in amazing ways. Papa Harold’s eyes were opened to the town of San Luis, Mexico, and thus began Caring Hearts Ministries.
Since this time, the organization has grown through seeing a need, praying for provision, and the Lord providing. A boy’s home, a soup kitchen, a garbage dump ministry, a blind center, and a local church are not just built overnight. It took trust in God’s plan to provide the supplies, the labor, and the correct timing for each of these ministries to take off and be the best resource for the struggling people of San Luis.
It is a lot easier to say “I’m going to trust in the Lord to provide this need” than it is to actually follow through with that thought. In fact, there are followers in the Bible who though they may have been wary of the calling or the logistics that lay behind the vision, remained faithful and their provisions were met abundantly.
As the Israelites were traveling to the promise land, they longed for the food they had left behind in Egypt. They continued to follow the calling to the promise land, and the Lord provided through showering the land with bread.
In 1 Kings, Elijah is met with famine and drought. He continues to serve the Lord and pray amidst his struggle and he is led to a river for water and the Lord sends raven to provide him with food.
When people gathered from miles around to hear the Son of God preach, the disciples were concerned about providing all these followers with food. Jesus continued his teaching and trusted in the Lord and fed a crowd with five loaves of bread and two fish. As if that isn’t compelling enough, there was even food left over!
A missionary from the 1800s once said, “God’s work done in God’s way will never lack God’s supplies” (Hudson Taylor).
Caring Hearts has trusted in the Lord’s provision for years and will continue to praise the Lord for his provision as they continue to discover the needs of San Luis, Mexico. As we continue to work on the new Life Center, a drug rehabilitation center, we will continue to pray for the supplies, the labor, and the guidance in this ministry.
What vision has the Lord placed on your heart? In what ways are you yearning for the Lord’s provision?
Our prayer for you is that as we continue to act on the needs we have found in Mexico, you continue to find the needs around you in your own communities. Trust in the Lord’s provision and He will provide you with a surplus of resources to carry out His commandment of being His hands and feet here on Earth.
