I’m Michael Seamon, a 28 year old and have been living in Nashville, TN for going on 6 years now. In December 2010, I graduated from Belmont’s School of Nursing, and have worked at Vanderbilt on the Neurology/Neurosurgery ICU as a RN since.
I first visited Caring Hearts Ministries in August 2016. I have been going on mission trips since middle school with the church I grew up in, mostly domestically in the Southeastern US, but also abroad for 3 weeks in Cambodia with Belmont’s SON. I found out about Caring Hearts Ministries from my friend Mackenzie who had been on a previous trip before and invited me to go on the August 2016 trip with other Nashville college students and young professionals.
My most memorable experience from the trip would have to be the shut-in ministry when we visited Donny and Marytoni. Donny has been such a big part of Caring Hearts Ministries, as I learned before and while visiting with him and his wife; however, he has had to take a step back as his liver failure and overall health have made it nearly impossible to leave his home. As this was not a medical mission trip, I did not foresee having to use my knowledge or skills as a RN. But God gave me the opportunity to work with this group, specifically Natalie and Marcelo, who discovered the need and how to help, and Lalo, who helped translate, to teach and help Marytoni and Donny better understand his medications and his care to better treat him. Donny and Marytoni blessed us so much more with their kindness by welcoming us into their home and loving on us like family.
My time in San Luis impacted my life greatly. It showed me that I need to slow down, appreciate and praise God each day for what I have, and to continue to love on others. Since being back in the US, it has been a challenge not to just fall back into my routine with work, hanging out with friends and family, and so on, but God continues to remind me along with the help of the friends I made on this trip to pray and keep in touch with the people we met and promised to pray for.
- Michael Seamon 2016
Last week, 13 young adults from Nashville Tennessee and one from Pennsylvania came on a mission trip to San Luis. They put on two roofs for shut ins. One family is a grandmother with chronic pain raising four kids in a home that caught fire. The other was a mom raising a child with special needs in need of a roof over their heads. The team did a VBS, visited the Rehab Center, Prison, Blind Center and spent countless hours playing with with the Oasis Boys. The week was beautiful!
We at Caring Hearts Ministries have a special prayer request that is very heavy on our hearts. Our brother Donaciano Solano, is very sick an in need of a miracle. Donny has been a valuable part of Caring Hearts Ministries for many years. He has helped take care of the children and acted as a refuge to them. The children run to him when they see him, they know he is a safe and reliable place to turn to. The Lord has used him in so many lives of children who are starving for stable adults to guide them. Donny has served faithfully for the Lord in Caring Hearts in so many ways. He has cleaned up after many missions teams and prepared for the next ones to come. When something needed done, he always showed up to help. He is a testimony of the Lord creating a servant's heart.
Although Donny's spirit is strong, his body is weak. He has trouble walking, standing, showering, and dressing himself. For someone so active and hard working, being unable to move and work on his own is frustrating and exhausting . He is on a very restrictive diet, HIs family is working hard taking care of him and trying to show him as much love and support as they can. He takes over nine medications, and has large amounts of medical bills that are too much for his family to pay for.
Please pray for Donny and his family. Pray for peace, for healing, for financial blessing. Please pray that the Lord calms Don's heart. Please pray for people to continually stand by and support him and show him God;s love has not and will never leave him.
Caring Hearts is wanting to support Donny through this. Caring Hearts has a variety of ways we support Donny and people like him through ministries such as the Shut In Ministry, Medical Donations and more. You can donate to these ministries by designating your dollars to specific areas such as the ones listed, or by donating to the Match 60 campaign, where every dollar you give is matched, making your donation worth double what you give.:
