On August 20th, Hilltop Tabernacle Pentecostal Church (that's in Ontario, Canada), with the leadership of Dave Heins, held a charity auction to benefit Caring Hearts. The idea was to ask people if they had two of something, or something lying in the basement, garage, or attic that hadn't been used for year, to donate their extra stuff to be auctioned off.
Well, people had some extra stuff. A variety of items from garden tools, kitchen utensils, plates, coffee makers, antiques, oil paintings, construction tools, rotor tillers, ride on lawn mover, stereos, computers, painted plates, downhill skis, beds, tables, chairs, and even a kitchen sink or two, were donated. It was all photographed, and the event was advertised. They hired a popular auctioneer from the area, and he cut his price in half!
Businesses offered season tickets to OHL hockey game tickets, free meals at restaurants, rooms at seasonal vacation spots, etc. There were approximately 200 people bidding on the donated items. A total of 397 items, many of which were bundled packages of several things, were auctioned off. The amount raised was over $8,000 US.
A BIG thank you to Hilltop Tabernacle and Dave Heins for all of their work and dedication to helping the people of San Luis!
