The winter months have come with a few teams of people that have been faithful supporters of Caring Hearts for years, making annual trips and forming relationships with the people in San Luis. Two of those teams are Grace United Methodist Church led by Lonny and Deanne Kirkland, and Lebanon Presbyterian Church led by Pastor Dave Morgans. Each of these leaders and teams have something very special in San Luis. The boys at Oasis Boys' home get excited when they hear they are coming. Their faces are recognized at church and in the ministries they visit.
This is one of the beautiful things about the Caring Hearts family. First time volunteers join with people who have been going on annual trips for years and they get to see the impact that a week spent loving those in need can make. The missionaries leave footprints in the sand and on the hearts of the Mexican people. Although the week may be short, the impact is eternal for both the Americans and the local people.
Carrie Galicic, who came with Lebanon Presbyterian Church in November explains her experience in a beautiful example.
I can't begin to tell you what this trip has meant and continues to do for my family in their faith journey! I came with my daughters; one that has been down 3 times and one that this was her first. What a blessing we went home with! The people we met on our journey down there hold a special place in our hearts. Pedro and the boys along with Pastor Francisco are our extended family now. They are a part of such a great ministry. It warms my heart to have had a small part in it. Adalberto is and always will be my and my girls Mexico Grandfather. What a blessing he is to the people of San Luis and the groups that he works with that visit there. I have been on this mission trip twice and will continue because everyone is family and I truly miss them when I return home. - Carrie Galicic
