Hello, I'm Tyler. So I have been going to San Luis, Mexico the past few years with a group from my school, and I've loved it every time. It has been a huge part of my life and my walk with God and has had such an impact on my life.
This time going to Mexico was definitely a different experience because I decided I wanted to stay for a longer period of time at the Oasis boy's home. I went with a group the first week then stayed three weeks after that to help in anyway possible. While I was there, I helped with construction alongside Marcelo, ran sound at the church, painted and organized at the church and Oasis, helped give out lunches at the Soup Kitchen, and obviously hung out with the boys and played lots of soccer. It was really amazing to be a part of their lives and get to grow closer to them. They just accepted me into their home as if I was a part of the Oasis family. The community in San Luis was truly incredible. Whenever someone is in need, family and friends are quick to help no matter what the cost. I was able to see this firsthand through the ministries of Caring Hearts. Caring Hearts provides for many families around the community that are in need by providing water, electricity, food, and shelter. I had the opportunity to meet many of these families and see those needs met. It was incredible to take part in that and see how God provides. Despite the situations these families are in, their joy is unwavering and their faith is so strong. It was a blessing to simply see how much God is a part of everything they do. One of my favorite parts of my time in Mexico was working with Marcelo doing construction and working directly with different families to provide for immediate needs that they have. There was a family specifically that had an electrical fire that destroyed their roof and left their home in unlivable conditions. Our group built a new roof and afterwards, we did electrical work, put in drywall, and painted the house. The family now has a beautiful home that is safe to live in. Seeing the family everyday and being a part of their story was something so special to me. Seeing those smiling kids every morning and getting to spend time with them each day was the best part of my day. It was a happy and sad day when we finished all our work at that house because I knew we would have to say goodbye to the family, but we left feeling so blessed by that family, and we left knowing that they would have a better place to live. This was just one family and one story of how Caring Hearts has been able to bless this community. Being a part of this has had a huge effect on my life and my future as I come back to the United States. I want to continue to find ways to serve in my local community and do more long-term mission trips in the future. I definitely learned more about God's purpose for me and how I can use my gifts to love and help others. There were many more adventures during my time in San Luis, and it has been such a blessing to be a part of the Oasis family and a part of what Caring Hearts does to help in San Luis. I can't wait until the day when I get to see all my friends again at Oasis. I'll keep praying for San Luis, and I know God will continue to provide for his people there. Tyler (Natán)
