The Shut-in Ministry got its name because the 35 families in the program are just that... "Shut In" to their homes and unable to work due to terminal illnesses and chronic disabilities. These families are the poorest of the poor in San Luis. The program is run by a woman named Ines who visits each family twice a month, bringing them food, paying their utilities, and providing medical care to the best of her ability. Sponsorship is a journey that is rewarding, life-giving, heartbreaking, and hope-sharing. Because the families in the shut-in program live in such extreme poverty and have terminal illnesses, chronic disabilities, among other issues, it prevents them from being able to work and provide for their families. Caring Hearts responds to this need by paying their water, electricity, rent and a twice-monthly food distribution. The goal of the sponsorship program is to create a relationship between you, the sponsor, and one of the Shut-In families. This will provide them with support relationally and financially. Every month, your donation will help cover the cost of the shut-in program. This donation goes into a fund for the overall budget of keeping the shut-in ministry running. The second half of your sponsorship is to write your family letters, forming a relationship and bond that is centered on Christ, positive and life-giving.
