Doorn Family Experience
My name is Jake, I am 13 years old. I was so fortunate to be a part of this volunteer trip to caring hearts. From supporting the community in different ways to interacting with the kids at caring hearts, it was such an influential experience for me. The trip also felt very safe and all of the staff were amazing.
Jim and Kristen: Our Caring Hearts experience was so meaningful for our family. Angie and her staff are so welcoming and wonderful. They made us feel a part of their community instantly, from the wonderful accommodations they provided, to accompanying us to the many different ministry sites/areas in which they serve and allowing us to help. It was so special for our family to be there. We are so grateful for this opportunity to see the amazing work that Caring Hearts does in Sonora, MX.
During our last day, we visited the community at the Blind Center. While we were there, a woman who had lost her daughter asked us for prayer. Our group gathered around her and prayed, but another girl and I stayed behind to sit with her for a while.
With tears streaming down our faces, we told her that we promised to pray for her and that our words were not empty. She squeezed our hands and continued thanking us. We told her that although her daughter was no longer on this earth, we would pray for her as though we were her daughters. We reminded her that through Christ, we can all be family, no matter where we come from.
She held our hands for the rest of our time together, even after others had left the building. It was such a beautiful moment, and the love of God was so evident.
Because of Jesus, we were able to connect in a way that was deep and real, despite the language, distance, and circumstances that separated us. This experience taught me the importance of stepping out in faith, praying boldly, and not being afraid to embrace the love and family we have been promised through Christ.
Caring Hearts Ministry has a heart for the people of San Luis, Mexico. Being able to interact with the people we serve, whether with the boys at Oasis, the children at the soup kitchen, or families in the villages, was an incredible experience.
It is clear that the Lord is using this ministry and the people involved to grow and glorify His Kingdom. Through Caring Hearts, I was personally able to grow in my own spiritual walk while serving the people of San Luis. It was a blessing to see how God was working through each person and each moment throughout the trip.
Caring Hearts has changed who I am.
Growing up, I’ve always had a yearning to help people and a desire to love, but it was something I struggled with. Caring Hearts has taught me how to love with a love greater than myself, but beyond learning how to love, Caring Hearts has taught me how to be loved.
Each trip that I have gone on, I have seen the Lord move in so many unique ways. Sometimes through actions, sometimes through testimony, or even the devotions of other volunteers on the trip.
I truly believe that God is moving throughout the hearts of the people in San Luis, and getting to share the Gospel and see the Gospel shared with others is so eye-opening.
I think one of my favorite parts about Caring Hearts is getting to see the growth each time I visit. It doesn’t matter what ministry we visit or who we spend time with, there is always a familiar face or a relatable story that reminds me God is moving in our midst.
Caring Hearts has challenged me to think beyond myself, something that I am grateful to have been able to carry back into my own community.
