Can you imagine going to the dump on a blazing hot day, searching through piles of stinky rotten trash, hoping to find something of value that you can resell, or redeemable items that can be turned in for a profit? In America, we can’t fathom this lifestyle, but to many families in San Luis, this is an everyday reality. No matter the heat, the people still go to see what they can find. Despite their hard work, they are still living in poverty. Many of them even calling the dump their home; living in shacks built of materials they have found.
Caring Hearts Ministry believes that according to Matthew 25:35 “For when I was thirsty, you gave me something to drink,” it is our God-given mission to take care of the poor and needy, the thirsty and hungry. To fulfill this mission, Caring Hearts Ministry demonstrates to those at the dump that God sees them, by establishing a watering station to supply water and ice daily for those in need. This is lifesaving to many who were drinking out of the dirty canal that runs through the dump.
