Luke 18:16
But Jesus called the children to him and said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these.”
In San Luis, many children lack consitent access to education and food. Many kids go days without knowing when they will eat next, and many have to beg or steal.
In addition, even though school is free, the lack of supervision, transportation, and money for a uniform and school supplies leave many children without access to education.
Caring Hearts responded to this need with our Soup Kitchen, open 6 days a week. Every morning, children come pick up a bagged lunch, but many of them finish it before even getting out of the gates! Every Saturday, we have classes and games for the children to come to as well. In the summer, we provide camps during the day so they have a safe place to be. At times, we have had 200 children show up.
Many children in San Luis walk to the Soup Kitchen at the young age of 4 or less, without shoes, knowing that they can come to us and find a safe place where they will be loved and cared for.
